If you are new to marketing online, then you have likely considered e-mail marketing as an option to get visitors to your website. Email marketing can be a very lucrative method, but unfortunately, it can also be very difficult to fine tune this method to work well.

The biggest problem with email marketing is the fact that it already has a negative reputation because of spam. So even if you conduct your e-mail marketing campaigns responsibly and above-board, it can be hard to get your readers to distinguish your e-mail from the scores of e-mails they delete every day. Another issue is that it is not as simple as typing out an advertisement for your products or services.

So what is the secret to success when it comes to e-mail marketing? Well, there are a number of things, that if done correctly and in unison, can make all the difference in your email marketing campaigns.

First, you need to determine whether you intend to reach your customers manually via your own mailing list, or through a service that already maintains a list. Your best bet may be to build your own list and then send mailings through it on your own. For one thing, it is going to cost you next to nothing to do it yourself. Additionally, you will have the advantage when it comes to targeted traffic, because you already know that those who have opted in to receive your mailings are interested in what you have to offer on your website.

Either way, probably the most important part of your e-mail will be the subject line, because if it fails to hook the reader into continuing to read the e-mail message itself, then your mailing as a whole becomes worthless. Make sure that the subject line is a one sentence condensation of what will be discussed in the body of the message. Tell the name of the website you are discussing, and the main point of your contact.

In the body of the e-mail, you need to remember that the reader is not going to want to sit there reading a long and drawn-out message. You will want to re-iterate who you are and what website you are writing about, and then go on to briefly describe whatever it is you want the reader to focus on. Keep in mind that what you are trying to do is get the reader to visit your website, so there is no need to go into great detail about things they could be finding on the website itself. Give them a reason to go to the website for more information.

Remember, never abuse your readers trust and confidence by sending out tons of e-mail. Commit to a certain amount of e-mails and stick to it. For example, if you state on your website that you will send a newsletter once a week, ONLY send one per week. If you state once per month, do not exceed more than one per month. Also, you need to make sure that your mailings are relevent and provide some point or purpose for your readers. If you can get them interested once, it will become easier to keep them interested as long as you stay on the topic that they wanted to hear about in the first place.

Use these simple guidelines to compose and maintain an email marketing campaign that will serve its purpose - to drive interested traffic to your website over and over again. You will need to tweak this method to suit your own personal needs, but once you get the hang of the basics, you should have no problem reaping the rewards.

By Stanley TangIt is an essential part of getting your new website seen by the masses on the internet to have it included in search engine results. There are many different variables to consider when submitting your website to the major search engines in order to have successful results, but there are also many pitfalls that need to be avoided at all costs as well.

Since search engines are the driving force behind the traffic (both quality and quantity) that most popular websites receive, one would do well to learn as much as they possibly can about search engines, how they work, and what a webmaster can do to optimize their website to work with search engines, as opposed to against them.

One large mistake that people routinely make when designing their websites has to do with keywords. Keywords would be the words that people search for on the search engines in order to find websites that are relevent to their interests. Before you even add any text to the pages of your website, make a list of all keywords and short phrases (two or three words at most), and make sure to include those in the text.

But don’t overdo it. That is another common problem - that people think that if they take that list of keywords and slap it onto every single page of their website, they will end up with a higher ranking in search engine results. Often times, the opposite occurs, so take the time to write some good quality content for your website, using the appropriate amount of keyword saturation for best results.

If you think that it is too difficult to come up with your own content and graphics to build a website and that it is acceptable to use the work of someone else to fill your pages, think again. Copyright infringement in against the law even on the internet, not to mention the fact that search engines will crack down on you. It simply is not worth it. Be unique.

Have you ever conducted a search on your favorite engine, just to find that some of the results shown have absolutely nothing to do with what you searched for? This happens when people insert unrelated keywords into their page code in order to achieve higher rankings and more traffic from search engines. Do not do this either.

You may be asking whether you can hide keywords on your pages by making the text color the same as the background color. Well, technically you can, it is your website after all, but if the search engines find out (and they will), your site will likely never see the results page of a search engine, thereby making it counterproductive to what you are trying to achieve.

Another big problem is when people forget or simply do not bother to take the time to review the rules and policies of each search engine they wish to receive traffic from. All of the major search engines spell out in great detail what they find acceptable, and what they do not. Yes, it will likely be a long read, and yes, you will have to read this material at each individual search engine to make sure you are compliant. But once you consider the benefits, you will surely see that they far outweight the hassles and soon you will start to see your diligence pay off.

Build Your List Using Viral Marketing

When it comes to internet marketing, everyone has their own tactics and strategies that they use. The overall goal is pretty much the same, to get customers to your website to purchase the goods and services that you offer there, there are just different ways of going about it. Some people use traffic exchanges, some use banners and link sharing, and others use an opt-in list, which helps build up a customer base, and then they slyly slip in their own ads from time to time, and others combine several different tactics. The one common strategy that many internet marketers use is viral marketing. If you aren’t yet familiar with the term, keep reading, as you are about to learn just what viral marketing is, and how you can use it to help build your opt-in list.

With viral marketing, you create a product, or even just an e-mail, including your website address and your name, usually in the form of a resource box, and get that product or email out there to as many people as possible, so that your link gets seen. If the receiver finds the product or email of interest, then hopefully they will visit your site, and make a purchase while they are there. There are many viral marketing tactics used today, but we will list a few of the more common here so that you can get a better idea.

The most common method of viral marketing today involves creating an e-book. You pick a topic that is related to your website, and create an e-book on that topic. You want the e-book to be well-written, and provide factual, useful information to the reader. Using keywords will be a good idea, and it is important that you insert links to your site within the e-book, but not so often as to appear blatant or annoying to the reader. Give this book away for free, to your opt-in list, on your website, and to anyone else that may be interested, and allow these people to also give the book away for free, provided that they don’t change any of the content.

If you aren’t really familiar with e-books, or don’t want to put that much time and effort into a product, you could also use the same technique and develop a report, which of course, would be shorter, and take less time to create.

If you already have an opt-in list established, you can create an informative e-mail, with your links included, and send it out to your members, again allowing them to use it for their own purposes provided that they leave it whole.

If you already use article marketing for your website, as many marketers now do, allow your list subscribers to sign up to receive free articles in their e-mail, with your links included, and allow them to use the articles for their own purposes, again, making certain they understand that they are to be used as is. You may also want to allow them to include links of their own that is solely up to you.

As you build up a reputation of creating quality products that others can use, you will find that more and more people start visiting your site, and signing up for your opt-in list, and that the profits are increasing nicely, with little effort and almost no expenditure on your part!

Dear fellow subscribers,

I just wanted to take a snippet from my product “The Viral Marketing Blackbook” and share a little inspiration with you.

The Art of Traffic Generation

As you may know, traffic is the lifeblood to success for all online businesses. Making money on the internet is all about traffic monetization.

You’ve probably heard this phrase many many times before: “The money is in the list.”

WRONG!

And nope, it’s also not “the money is what you do with the list.” This list is just part of the big picture in internet marketing. Building a list is just one way of generating and monetizing your traffic

But in the end, everything comes down to traffic. Forget what the so-called “gurus” have taught you over the years. Most of them probably haven’t even made a single cent outside the internet marketing niche, and only know how to make money by teaching others how to make money.

The true remarkable stars of internet marketing are people like Larry Page and Sergey Brin (founders of Google), Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith (founders of Hotmail), David Filo and Jerry Yang (founders of Yahoo), Pierre Omidyar (founder of eBay), Jeff Bezos (founder of Amazon) etc.

I don’t think any of these made their billions using an opt-in list. They made their billions by driving massive traffic to their website and monetizing them. List building is just one way of monetizing your traffic.

The foundation of all internet businesses is traffic. No matter how good your website looks, if you don’t have any traffic, you won’t make any money. Using a red headline in your sales letter isn’t going to help much if you are only receiving 10 hits a day.

Stop wasting your time and money, trying to find the “secret” formula to increasing your Adsense revenue or your subscriber list. Concentrate on building the quality targeted traffic first, before working on your conversion rates.

Many people think conversion is the way to get started. Yes, conversion is essential, but you need the traffic to work on your conversion. Even if your conversion stinks, you can still make tons of money if you have a large volume of traffic.

That is why you should focus on building the traffic first, so that you are in a much better position to test the conversions. (How would you know how good your conversions are if you have no traffic to test on?)

Bottom line: the person with the most traffic wins almost every time.

This brings me to the basic formula to online success:

Traffic + Conversion = Profits

It’s as simple as that. Get massive amounts of traffic and convert as much of it as you can. If you can achieve that, then you will become rich online. This is the exact same fundamental formula ALL online businesses use, including Google and Yahoo. EVERY SINGLE internet marketing strategy in the entire universe fall under either the “traffic” or “conversion” category.

(If you can think of one which does not fall into one of the two categories, please tell me, because I want to know )

Do you think Google paid $1.65 billion for YouTube because they had good advert optimization or good web design? NO (in fact, their click through rates sucks). They bought YouTube because it had a wide audience and massive traffic, even though it had no revenue. Google paid for the traffic that they hope will eventually monetize and convert to create profit.

So by being able to generate traffic, and constantly testing and tracking to see what converts, you will make money.

Fundamentals of Traffic Generation

According to internet guru John Reese (of income.com), there are only three legal ways of generating traffic in the entire universe (with the fourth being stealing, which is using spywares etc - we won’t be talking about those, obviously).

1. Buy Traffic

You can buy traffic. This includes things like PPC advertising, banner advertising, ezine advertising, co-registration etc.

2. Create Traffic

You can create traffic. This may involve things like article marketing, press releases, search engine optimization, traffic from your list, social networking, social bookmarking etc.

3. Borrow Traffic

Finally, you can borrow traffic. There is no better way than to leverage other people’s traffic. This may include things like placing ads on other people’s ezine or newletter, joint ventures etc.

Viral Traffic

Traffic from viral marketing goes somewhere in between creating traffic and borrowing traffic. This is probably the most powerful, yet underused internet marketing strategy to generating massive amounts of free traffic.

In fact, many successful businesses you see today (both online and offline) succeeded by using the power of viral marketing, or word-of-mouth advertising, as its called offline. And of course, most importantly, viral traffic is free.

The Fatal Traffic Mistake

Before I move on, let me start off by emphasizing something vitally important to you. This is probably the number one fatal traffic mistake almost everyone makes when trying to get traffic to their website. This mistake practically guarantees that they are wasting their time and money on ineffective advertising.

And what is this fatal mistake?

They do not track every traffic source individually.

Tracking every single traffic source individually, including individual keywords, is the most important thing if you want to get profitable traffic. And if you are not doing that, then you won’t be able to know which traffic sources are making you money, and which are not, meaning that you won’t be able to improve and increase your targeted traffic.

Are you confused?

Here is an example. Let’s say I ran a pay-per-click campaign, placed some banner ads and bought some ezine ads to drive traffic to my website, but I forgot to track my traffic individually. At the end of the day, I look at my results and see that I have spent $500 on advertising and earned $1000 in revenue. I made a stunning $500 profit! I should be happy right?

Absolutely not.

Why? Because there is a good chance that probably $400 of the $500 spent on advertising was useless, and probably all the revenue came from the $100 advertising. If I was tracking the traffic source individually, and was able to pin-point where the traffic were coming from, I could have saved up to $400 and have made a profit of $900 rather than $500.

And that is the number one fatal mistake almost everyone makes.

As John Reese said, “testing and tracking is where 95% of the profit is made”, because it allows you to differentiate the winners from the losers.

To your success,

Stanley Tang
