As an old entreprener :-) I wish I had taken more risks as a young entrepreneur so I would have learned faster. The best thing about the internet, as you have so rightly pointed out, is that you can sell stuff, make money, and begin to learn the fundamentals. And use that money wisely to fuel a non information product or pay to click business.
