Here’s a thread in the forum I just stumbled across:

Google Thread

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree on that. The Google era is FAR from over. They dominated for the past 10 years, and they will dominate for the next 10 years. Right now, I see nobody coming even near Google. My prediction is that it’s going to be at least another 5-10 years before we see another player coming even close to Google, let alone take over it.

Come on, cuil was just a complete disaster. Complete joke. Just look at the search results. I don’t even see it overtaking ask.com. And searchme, yes, it does have the fancy itunes coverflow rip-off visual look, but the speed is painfully slow and I don’t see it going anywhere. Plus, I don’t see how they are capable of updating those images of websites everyday if they are changing everyday. Maybe because its still in beta mode and they’ve got something up their sleeves which is going to surprise the entire industry.

And you can say there’s a third player, mahalo. To be honest, in my opinion, it’s probably got more chance than cuil or searchme. But, I have a feeling its probably going to become more of a wikipedia.

You have to remember that Google does more than just providing search results - google checkout, google earth, google maps, adsense/adwords, analytics, chrome, youtube, blogger, orkut, google trends etc. It seems that they are rolling out new features every single day… just crazy. Plus, look at the offline things they’re doing. They’ve just released Android which perhaps could take over iPhone (making no predicitions on that). And if you been to San Fransisco, the wireless network there is just completely dominated by Google and allows super-targeted advertsing. So probably by the time somebody catches up with Google in 5 years time, Google is probably already another 5 years ahead…

It’s easy to say Google is falling, but I’m sorry to say it’s not coming anytime soon.

4 Years later, many new traffic generations such as “web 2.0″ and “twitter” have been introduced. Which is why John felt the need to update the course, and release Traffic Secrets 2.0.

————————-
THE UGLY TRUTH…
————————-

Look, in my blog post, The Art of Traffic Generation, I talk about the fact that the foundation of all internet businesses is traffic. No matter how good your website looks, if you don’t have any traffic, you won’t make any money. Using a red headline in your sales letter isn’t going to help much if you are only receiving 10 hits a day.

Stop wasting your time and money, trying to find the “secret” formula to increasing your Adsense revenue or your subscriber list. Concentrate on building the quality targeted traffic first, before working on your conversion rates.

Many people think conversion is the way to get started. Yes, conversion is essential, but you need the traffic to work on your conversion. Even if your conversion stinks, you can still make tons of money if you have a large volume of traffic.

That is why you should focus on building the traffic first, so that you are in a much better position to test the conversions. (How would you know how good your conversions are if you have no traffic to test on?)

Bottom line: the person with the most traffic wins almost every time.

It’s that simple. Which is why I WANT you to get Traffic Secrets. If you use the techniques that John teaches you, you WILL make money. I know for a fact because I personally have.

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the backbone of internet marketing. There are other ways to get recognition and traffic for your site, but there is no substitute for ranking highly in the major search engines. SEO is much like investing for the future of your website. Paid traffic and other short-term solutions will disappear without intense effort and funding. But optimizing your website continually over time will yield positive results and resulting traffic for years to come.

Building Blocks of SEO
To use search engine optimization successfully, you have to understand and implement what the search engines are looking for. Unfortunately, there is no published list of ways to get into the search engines’ good graces, so you must rely on the experience of others and the time-tested methods that have worked in the past. While the algorithm for popularity in the search engines fluctuates slightly on a regular basis, the building blocks of SEO have remained the same.

Keyword Optimization
The first aspect of optimizing your website is to select a range of keyword to target in the engines. Your best option for a highly optimized website is to narrow your site contents down to a single niche and focus heavily on keywords within that niche to limit the competition from other, possibly larger and more funded, sites.

As you build your pages, work your keywords into the content and meta tags and descriptions. Ideally you can achieve 3-7% saturation with your particular keyword through the content, but the material should still read naturally for your website to be popular with readers. Rather than simply including a word or phrase throughout your text, attempt to use the keyword in your URL, site title and in headings and subheadings throughout to give your selected phrase as much power as possible in search results.

Fresh Content
Search engines, particularly Google, like sites that are continually updated with new content. Not only does the fresh content give you additional chances to use your selected keywords, it also helps to bring repeat traffic to the site as well as giving you new avenues to pursue within your niche. Depending on your niche, however, you can still do well with a static site if your market area and keyword is not heavily marketed by others.

Link Popularity
Finally, search engines like to see that the sites they consider high ranking based on keywords and content are indeed popular with visitors. To measure this component, search engines use link popularity or the number of links you have coming into your website. Presumably, the more websites linking to pages of your site, the more meaningful your content must be.

Not only does the number of back links make a difference in search engines, the quality of the links matter as well. A single link from an important or popular website is worth far more than a handful of links from new or untried websites.

In addition, recent changes by Google have discounted links that appear to be purchased rather than obtained naturally. The best links to your website, it seems, originate from the actual content on a single page that ranks highly in the search engines already. Site-wide and reciprocal links have diminished power in the current algorithm.

Let Google help you boost your Internet marketing business, by combining Google AdSense, Google AdWords, and by using search engine optimization for Google.

AdWords is a program that brings traffic, but costs money. AdSense is a program that sends traffic, and makes money. Google Search sends traffic and costs no money. Here are some power tips to help you combine the three programs in an effective way.

  1. Even if you are using Google AdWords, make sure that you are still using search engine optimization as well. This will help you get a better position in the search engines, and once you make it to the top of the results – the first page – you won’t have to spend money on Google AdWords anymore.
  2. Create content on your website that targets high priced keywords, and get AdSense ads on those pages. This can greatly help in funding your Google AdWords ads by paying you more money through the Google AdSense program.
  3. Never count on your Google AdSense income to cover your AdWords campaigns completely. It’s great for helping to recoup some of the costs associated with your Google AdWords campaigns, but AdSense rarely covers all of those costs.
  4. Don’t cut your own throat. If you are running AdSense ads on a site that you are advertising in Google AdWords, you may be spending more money than you are making. Use AdWords on sites that sell an affiliate product or your own product, use AdSense only on pages that aren’t designed to sell any other product.
  5. Use Google AdWords to test, without using Google AdSense. The AdSense program doesn’t tell you exactly what ads were clicked on your site, and it is not an effective testing tool. Google AdWords, on the other hand, is an effective testing tool.
  6. If you are using Google AdWords to bring traffic to an AdSense site that you have, use caution. Make sure that you aren’t paying more than you are making! To avoid this, when selecting keywords for your site, use key phrases that cost less and are related to your topic for your AdWords campaign, but then target the highest paying keywords in that group within your content.

Whether you are new to internet marketing and SEO, or someone who understands a bit about how the internet works, the content you put onto your website is extremely important. This content consists of words necessary to convey important messages to your site visitors. By creating quality content pages, you will be naturally using your keywords and showing the search engines how important your site is.

You are an expert in your field. You know how to get the most out of your products. Why don’t you explain that information to your customers? By telling your customers how to choose the right size, or pick the right color is something you should have no trouble doing. You should set a goal of adding at least one new page to your website every week. I am not talking about adding products, but actual words. Explain why you are the best at what you do, explain how to choose the right item for you, explain why blue is better than green and whatever else you can do to help your customers.

The content of your site is extremely important to your search engine rankings. You will find that it is extremely easy to use your main keywords in content you write for your website. It is also very convenient that you are writing this content, because I will show you how to make it into one way links in a few chapters!

The key to having the best content lies in your competitor’s websites!

Put in your main keywords in Google and take a close look at the top 10 websites. In this case (content generation) take a look at the text they have chosen to include in their web pages. Now take a step back and think about how you can write something better for your site. Take the content you’ve found and put it into your own words (copyright infringement is asking for a lawsuit). While writing this content, improve upon everything your competitors stated. This will give you the type of content that search engines and customers are looking for.

If you end up getting stuck and having difficulty finding ideas for content, search article databases and take the opportunity to read information from other experts in your field. I guarantee you will find many ideas and different articles that you didn’t even think of. You can find many article databases in the Resource Section of this course. This is the best part about business on the internet, there is always someone thinking of something that you haven’t thought of yet!

The first step in doing internet marketing is to choose your URL. The URL is the web address that someone types in when going to a website. The URL you use for your internet marketing business is very important and must be chosen carefully. The URL you use must have your most important keywords in the URL whenever possible. If you are offering televisions, you should absolutely have the word “television” in your URL. Unless your business is already established, you have the ultimate freedom in what your business will be called. If your business already exists, you are more limited as to what URL you choose. You have specific goals to consider when deciding on a domain name (URL):

1. Is it easy for your customers to remember?
2. Are any of your keywords in it?
3. Does it properly reflect your business?

As you develop (or have developed) your website, make sure you name the pages accordingly. If you have a page dedicated to Phillips televisions, the pages URL should be something like PhillipsTelevisions.com. Take special care when creating pages to ensure that your keywords are in the URL. Search engines look at individual page URLs and use that as one of the many factors in ranking a page for keywords.

The most important aspect of your domain name: You must check to see if your domain has ever been used by someone else. If your brand new domain name was used for spam or unethical internet practices, it will be extremely difficult to get it indexed in the major search engines. This is not an issue you want to deal with. Check out your potential domain name at http://www.archive.org and see if it has ever been owned. If it has been owned, take a look at the archives to see if someone was breaking any rules with this domain. Trust me; you will thank me if you find out that it has been abused in the past. There is no reason to make search engine optimization harder on us if we can avoid it!

Because of the fierce competition in the industry, some search engine optimization firms began using tactics that the search engines have labeled as “black-hat”, or “illegal”, in the search engine world. Every major search engine (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) has issued rules and guidelines listing several of these black-hat tactics. Failure to comply with these guidelines will most likely get you de-indexed, or worse, banned from the search engines.

Black hat SEO is the intentional misleading of search engines and their spiders. Nothing is worth the risk of being booted out of a search engine index. This is an article on what NOT to do for search engine optimization on your website.

DO NOT DO ANY OF THESE THINGS TO YOUR WEBSITE!

1. Keyword Stuffing

Keyword stuffing is the intentional overuse of a particular term or phrase in hopes of achieving higher search engine rankings for that term or phrase. The best way to avoid this is to fill your page with text that was written naturally and do not over use your target phrase. Often keyword stuffing leads to sentences sounding funny or awkward. Not only is this deceptive, but your customers will see it and run.

2. Hidden Text

Hidden text is setting the color of text the same as the background of a webpage. By having your text and background the same color, the text or repeating phrases is invisible to human visitors but not search engine bots. Search engines now look for the color of the text and compare it to the color of the background. Some webmasters create a colored image and set it as the background to the page to avoid being detected; this tactic does circumvent the search engines, as they are not able to tell the color of an image, however, your competitors will be quick to report you to the search engines if they find you are using this strategy.

3. Cloaking

Clocking, in short, is intentionally displaying different information to human visitors than to search engines. There are numerous ways of cloaking content, and not all have been determined “black-hat”. Would you be willing to share you tactics with the search engines themselves? Black-hat cloaking will work for a short time, however, you run a high risk of having your domain banned permanently. There are ethical reasons for cloaking and they are not bad if used properly.

4. Doorway Pages

Doorway pages are “landing” pages added to a website to specifically target a keyword or phrase. Often these doorway pages have no value to visitors and only exist to capture the attention of search engines. Doorway pages are added specifically to mislead search engine spiders and will get you removed from an index faster than you can blink.

5. Redirects

Redirect pages have several white-hat (usable) purposes, however, when used as a black-hat tactic – often combined with doorway pages – they serve as a red flag to search engines. Sneaky Redirect pages take a visitor from one page to another automatically and normally are used to guide search engines to page they will like better than the one you send your customer to.

6. Duplicate Site

This is not often used but, when affiliate programs were first gaining in popularity, webmasters would create several copies of the same sales page in hopes that quantity over quality would prevail and they would make a sale from one of their many websites selling a product. With the advancement of search engines, they are able to find excessive duplicate content and will penalize you heavily for it.

By Stanley TangIt is an essential part of getting your new website seen by the masses on the internet to have it included in search engine results. There are many different variables to consider when submitting your website to the major search engines in order to have successful results, but there are also many pitfalls that need to be avoided at all costs as well.

Since search engines are the driving force behind the traffic (both quality and quantity) that most popular websites receive, one would do well to learn as much as they possibly can about search engines, how they work, and what a webmaster can do to optimize their website to work with search engines, as opposed to against them.

One large mistake that people routinely make when designing their websites has to do with keywords. Keywords would be the words that people search for on the search engines in order to find websites that are relevent to their interests. Before you even add any text to the pages of your website, make a list of all keywords and short phrases (two or three words at most), and make sure to include those in the text.

But don’t overdo it. That is another common problem - that people think that if they take that list of keywords and slap it onto every single page of their website, they will end up with a higher ranking in search engine results. Often times, the opposite occurs, so take the time to write some good quality content for your website, using the appropriate amount of keyword saturation for best results.

If you think that it is too difficult to come up with your own content and graphics to build a website and that it is acceptable to use the work of someone else to fill your pages, think again. Copyright infringement in against the law even on the internet, not to mention the fact that search engines will crack down on you. It simply is not worth it. Be unique.

Have you ever conducted a search on your favorite engine, just to find that some of the results shown have absolutely nothing to do with what you searched for? This happens when people insert unrelated keywords into their page code in order to achieve higher rankings and more traffic from search engines. Do not do this either.

You may be asking whether you can hide keywords on your pages by making the text color the same as the background color. Well, technically you can, it is your website after all, but if the search engines find out (and they will), your site will likely never see the results page of a search engine, thereby making it counterproductive to what you are trying to achieve.

Another big problem is when people forget or simply do not bother to take the time to review the rules and policies of each search engine they wish to receive traffic from. All of the major search engines spell out in great detail what they find acceptable, and what they do not. Yes, it will likely be a long read, and yes, you will have to read this material at each individual search engine to make sure you are compliant. But once you consider the benefits, you will surely see that they far outweight the hassles and soon you will start to see your diligence pay off.

Boost Your Page Rank for More Targeted Website Traffic
By Stanley Tang

If you are an experienced Internet marketer, you probably already understand how important a good page rank can be to your business, but if not, let me explain it to you. No matter how great your website is, if you don’t have a good search engine or page rank, very few people will ever see it, and you probably won’t see much in the way of profits either. When someone goes to an internet search engine, such as Google or Yahoo, they enter keyword/keywords that they are looking for, and the engine pulls up all of the related pages it can find with those words. If you have a good page rank, then you will be listed at the top of the results page, meaning that your website will be one of the first ones that will be shown. The closer to the top of the list you are, the more likely you are to get a targeted website visitor.

Depending on the browser you use, and the add-ons you have installed, you may have a tool on browser that shows you the page rank for each site you look at. This is a good way to know how your own websites ranking is. Page ranking is what search engines use to decide how important your page is.

There are many things you can do to improve your search engine ranking. To get a good search engine ranking, you need to fill your pages with high quality keyword content that users will find beneficial. It is important to have articles that go along with the general theme of your website, and they should be based off one main keyword, so that when someone searches for that keyword, your articles will be pulled.

It is not always easy or quick to develop a good page rank; it takes a lot of work on your part. You can pay someone to write articles for you, but again, your focus should be on quality and keyword usage, not just how many articles you can put on your site. Then you have to get those high quality articles submitted to search engines and other webmasters sites, so that you can get your website out there.

The more traffic you get to your site, the higher your page rank will be, and the higher your page rank is, the more traffic you will get. So, traffic and page rank really develop each other in a lot of ways. Other ways to get more targeted traffic to your website is by joining pay per click traffic exchange sites, most of these are free to join, as long as you surf other people’s sites for credits, you can purchase an expired domain name, so you can get someone else’s traffic they have already established to your site, publish your own e-zine with links to your site at the end, and even pay for website advertising.

Just don’t make the mistake that many new marketers make, don’t develop a website, and think that is all you have to do, that visitors will just mysteriously come to it, because it really doesn’t work that way. If you purchase an expired domain name you may get a few visitors, but nothing to brag about, and not enough to solely boost your page rank.
